2 Things Castle Collectors Should Know Today
Verified LEGO Castle news, deals, parts, and collector intelligence — in 2–3 minutes.
1. A Castle favorite is back — and BrickLink voting is open
Crowd voting for BrickLink Designer Program 2028 Wave 1 is live, with 421 fan designs competing through October 14 at noon Pacific. Castle entries are down slightly from last round but still make up about a fifth of the field.
Among them: Arselus' Medieval Cathedral, a longtime fan favorite, is back with a major redesign. He kept signature details like the central spire and rose window but rebuilt the shape and interior around a single tower. That cut the part count to about 3,130, well below the nearly 4,000-piece version from earlier rounds, and he tuned the scale to sit alongside a typical medieval village.
Why it matters: Scale has always been the catch with big fan-built landmarks. This version is designed to fit into an existing Castle display rather than overpower it.
Fine print: Votes are one input. BrickLink combines crowd support with its own review, and five finalists are expected in November.
2. Sleepy Dragon Inn opens Tuesday — be ready at 11 AM ET
BrickLink Designer Program Series 9 crowdfunding opens Tuesday, October 6, at 8 AM Pacific / 11 AM Eastern. Sleepy Dragon Inn is $269.99 in the U.S., with 3,121 pieces and nine minifigures.
Why it matters: This is a one-time production run, not a normal retail release. It's one of the biggest Castle ordering dates on the October calendar.
Fine print: Limit two per household. The project needs at least 3,000 pre-orders to be produced. The crowdfunding window closes October 12 at 3 PM PT, or sooner if it reaches its production limit. Estimated shipping is March 2027.
Watch / Fine Print
October Pick a Brick is still settling in. More than 800 new elements are appearing, but availability remains uneven: some new pieces are already showing unavailable, while others haven't appeared yet.
One additional caution if you're planning a LEGO.com order around the current 40899 Astro Bot gift-with-purchase: LEGO's U.S. terms specifically say Pick a Brick Standard orders do not qualify toward the $150 threshold. The promotion runs through October 7 while supplies last. (LEGO® Shop)
